Since its inception in 1960, the Asian Library has developed the largest research collection of Asian language materials in Canada. The Asian Library holds more than 600,000 volumes in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian and South Asian languages. While the collection is comprehensive in its range of subjects, it is especially strong in the humanities and social sciences. Contributions to this fund help preserve and enhance the collection of Asian materials and support special projects such as the care and digitization of rare materials. Past projects including digitizing rare Japanese Tokugawa 徳川 maps and the Chinese Times 大漢公報, the longest-running Chinese newspaper in Canada.
